Pension plans: coverage trends and economic value
Economic and policy changes over recent decades have led to a decline in employer-sponsored pension plan coverage. But how much value do Canadian workers actually place on these plans? Does that value vary by plan type, or by other characteristics?
On April 1st, the Retirement and Savings Institute will host a luncheon-Conference featuring Professor and RSI Scientific Director Benoit Dostie, co-author of a study on the value of pension plans to workers, and Bernard Morency, adjunct professor and pension expert, to present and discuss the study’s findings and related issues. Professor Dostie and his colleagues Pierre-Carl Michaud and Todd Morris examined the issue using administrative data covering all Canadian workers over a 20-year period. The event will bring together academics, financial industry stakeholders, policymakers, and the informed public at HEC Montréal’s Hélène-Desmarais Pavilion in downtown Montréal for a rigorous but accessible discussion of the topic.
